About the Author
Yoshiko Okuyama (Ph.D., University of Arizona) is an Associate Professor of Japanese Studies in the Department of Languages at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Her areas of specialization include second language acquisition, technology-mediated communication, and deaf studies. Besides her research in linguistics and disability studies, she has publications in the areas of semiotics and film studies.
